Dan Newman has been consulting since 1995, providing planning, program design and evaluation services to public, private and non-profit organizations. Clients include human services organizations, health care providers, cities, counties, state agencies, school districts, and associations. He is a self confessed “policy wonk” who loves the new challenges that consulting brings.
Dan has 35 years of experience in planning, organizing, program development, management and evaluation. Throughout his career, he has been engaged in projects to improve service delivery and organizational effectiveness. The initiatives he has managed have required broad involvement from affected parties, and the reconciliation of disparate approaches and interests. Dan’s experience in planning and program development includes the financing and operation of programs in many fields, and the development of information systems for billing, reporting and evaluation purposes.
Dan brings experience in the development and management of state level programs and a practical approach to solving problems to his work. For example, while at the Minnesota Department of Human Services, he directed the transformation of Minnesota’s public chemical dependency treatment system into a customer-centered program that received national recognition from the National Institute of Medicine and the Innovations In Government awards program.
Currently, Dan is project director for a group of community health care centers, developing a disease management and care coordination model for low income persons with chronic illnesses. He is also working with PSG on the Illinois Staffing Study, conducting a cost benefit analysis for a client master index information system and coordinating a city/county lead poisoning prevention work group.
Dan attended the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University. After receiving his Master in Public Administration degree, he entered the private sector, working as a vice president of a mortgage banking firm before beginning his consulting practice.
Dan has been active as a volunteer and board member with many organizations in human services, health care, religion, community development and the arts. With over 35 years of board experience, he has worked with groups in all stages of development and change. He is currently a Board member of In The Heart of the Beast Puppet and Mask Theatre in Minneapolis and is a founder of the annual Mayday Parade and Festival.
In addition to his family and his work, Dan is passionate about whitewater kayaking, sailing (ice and water) and winter camping.
