Akilah Rosado-McQueen

Born and raised in Brooklyn, New York by parents who are political and social activists, Akilah Rosado-McQueen has spent her entire life seeking to understand government, its functions, and its flaws.  She attended the prestigious Chatham College in Pittsburgh, and later attended, SUNY Purchase where she obtained a Bachelor‚s degree in political science.

Upon completion of her undergraduate degree, Akilah served New York government in various capacities; she worked as a Legislative analyst for the Assembly Majority Leader’s office and later, Chief of Staff for for two members of the Assembly.  Akilah was

recognized for her work in establishing strong constituent based relationships between members and their local community by implementing results driven, customer friendly service.  She has been called on frequently to assume the challenge of reorganizing legislative staff and instituting strong management within the offices she has served.
   
In January of 2005, Akilah left the office of Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver, to pursue a Masters of Science in Urban Policy and Management at Milano, the New School for Urban Policy and Management where she will graduate this spring.
   
In addition to working in government, Akilah served as press spokesperson and speechwriter to the 35th New York City Council district campaign.

Among her varied accomplishments, Akilah is most proud of being a mother to her 4-year-old daughter, Dalila A.McQueen and wife to husband, Kelvin T. McQueen, an operations manager for Outdoor Life Network.
