PSG Announces Executive Changes

Firm poised to continue its leadership in creating customer-focused, results-based government

Saint Paul, Minn. (September 27, 2007) –  In a long-planned transition, The Public Strategies Group (PSG) today announced that company Vice President and co-owner Laurie Ohmann has been named chief executive officer, and Thomas Moss, a former executive in Minnesota Governor Jesse Ventura’s administration will serve as chief operating officer effective January 1, 2008.  Ohmann is a former government executive whose tenure with PSG dates back to its inception in 1991. Moss served as Director of Results Management for the executive branch under Governor Ventura and as Deputy Commissioner of the Minnesota Department of Human Services from 1996 to 2001, when he was also a client of PSG.

Government reform visionary and company co-founder Babak Armajani will transition from chief executive officer to devote his energies full-time to working with PSG’s government clients on organizational transformation. He will continue to serve as chair of the company’s board. Armajani’s long-time colleague, company president Jeff Zlonis, will also step down from his position as chief operating officer to serve clients and develop new services and products that advance the transformation of government organizations. Zlonis will retain his post as company president and Armajani and Zlonis will remain co-owners of the firm.

“These transitions mark the culmination of a multi-year process to enable our firm to most effectively guide its clients through numerous challenges,” said Armajani, who has led PSG since its inception. “By bringing in a highly experienced outsider, Tom Moss, to manage our business and naming long-time PSG partner, Laurie Ohmann, to provide strategic leadership, the firm is well positioned to succeed in the next decade.”

Since its incorporation in 1991, PSG has served hundreds of clients in the United States and around the world. The firm has supported successful system-wide change as the transformation partner for the State of Iowa, the US Department of Education’s Office of Student Financial Assistance and the New York City Department of Finance.  In addition, PSG guided the strategic reinvention of services for the New York State Department of Transportation, the US Department of Justice Community Oriented Policing Services, the child welfare and correction systems in Iowa, and the budget systems in numerous states, counties and cities. Three of PSG’s customers have been finalists or winners of Harvard University’s Innovations in American Government award.

“The people at PSG are unrivaled in their ability to create fundamental change in government. They helped my administration pioneer an out-of-the-box, bureaucracy-busting path for Iowa State government when I was governor,” said Tom Vilsack, former Governor of Iowa. “Babak Armajani inspired this results-driven, customer-focused revolution nearly two decades ago. Laurie Ohmann will bring experience and energy to continue this work well into the future.”

“Jeff and Armi pioneered fundamental reforms to improve government during their careers as public servants, and produced even more extensive results through their consulting support to federal, state and local government leaders,” said Ohmann. “Tom and I are excited to assume leadership of the firm and allow Jeff and Armi to devote more time to helping public sector leaders craft and implement change in government.“
