Results Achieved
Phase I: A voluminous functional analysis of all NRC activities and the extent to which these activities contribute to the agency's mission.
Phase II: A set of 24 issue papers developed around the most critical issues faced by NRC. Each issue paper presented a set of strategic options for the Chairman and the other NRC Commissioners to consider regarding which direction the agency should take in that area. Interested stakeholders from within and outside the agency were asked to comment on the strategic options contained in the issue papers both in writing and at a series of three public conferences held around the country. The Commission's final decisions in these issue areas are being used to help inform the agency's strategic plan and resource allocations.
Phase III: A strategic plan is being developed articulating the agency's mission, vision, goals, and strategies for achieving those objectives. The plan will be shared with employees and external stakeholders.
Phase IV: Following the completion of the strategic plan, the agency will develop more detailed implementation plans which outline how the NRC will put their strategies into action.
Specific Activities
Coaching of the senior management Steering Committee through all parts of the strategic planning process including the drafting of the plan.
Facilitation of Steering Committee meetings and retreats.
Design Labs at which "out-of-the-box" strategic options were developed for each of the critical issue areas.
